The Young Actors Group Summer Shakespeare Workshop and Show – Romeo and Juliet

Following our hugely successful production of Richard III in 2017, Henry V in 2018 (5 STARS, The Argus), The Tempest in 2019, ‘our best yet’ production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2020, a Terry Pratchett inspired Macbeth in 2021 and Twelfth Night in 2022, last year we faced Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Hamlet. This year charts another foray into a well known play – Romeo and Juliet!

This year we will once again be running two casts of 15 with two directors and two different show times. Both working on the same script.

Put together in just a week of rehearsals, these hour long youth productions promise silliness, Shakespeare and some sumptuous new writing (although, the Shakespeare bits are the best bits, obvs!).

It’s the future. A writer yearns for a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet that will reach an audience with a 20 second attention span. Can they team up with the latest AI chatbot to tell a tale that truly encapsulates the meaning of love!?

This one-hour adaptation of Romeo and Juliet keeps all the best bits whilst adding new verse, modern language and a whole lot of silliness! This year, two casts of sixteen young actors aged 8 – 16 take on the same script with a different director. Spoilers…some people die!

Suitable for the whole family.
