On a 1930s train bound for Hollywood, tensions simmer among a cast of characters chasing fame, fortune, and redemption. A wealthy film producer’s murder turns their journey into a high-stakes game of secrets and lies. Led by a determined detective, each passenger must confront their motives and alibis as the train hurtles toward its final destination. Lavish, mysterious, and packed with surprises, The Midnight Express is a thrilling homage to the golden age of Hollywood.

This year, the group wanted to take on a murder mystery, and I wanted to write one that was both lighthearted and fun. This show celebrates the many styles of old-school Hollywood, and it came together faster than usual perhaps because once the students got past the over-the-top, cheesy elements, they secretly enjoyed it! As a group, they work incredibly well together, with no negativity, which has made the process an absolute joy.

They’ve fully embraced the comedic aspects of the show, and their enthusiasm has never wavered. The biggest challenge has been maintaining focus, when they don’t have lines for a while, their attention tends to drift. A key lesson has been realising that even without dialogue, they must stay engaged, listening and reacting to the action on stage.
